So, I really like pop music. Unfortunately, everything is so generic that I feel pop music presently is less about fun melodies and contagious hooks and more about marketable 2:00 minute tracks pumped out of the same, well-oiled machine. I mean, right now you only need about three things for a pop song to be a hit:
1) A beat with a lot of bass
2) Some semi-appealing record-label servants/professional hookers to sing on it
3) T-Pain
I ask you, where have the good times gone? Well, it seems one group, Francis And The Lights, is attempting to bring a piece of the old pop back. Francis and his band make eclectic pop music reminiscent of Prince in his days with the Revolution, but also features some current pop elements. Sounding like Justin Timberlake if he repeatedly punched in the balls, Francis’ mega-quiet falsetto manages to carry tracks in way that even vocal powerhouses like Flo Rida and Soulja Boy Tell Em never could. Check out this sweet video of the dudes in action and then be sure to check out the music up top.

you are right on point about this… 2009 feels a lot like 1979 when disco got so predictable and synthetic that people just got sick of it! we are just repeating history!
