Guns ‘N Bombs have always been one of my favorite producers in the scene, maybe because I’ve known Johnny Love since I first moved to Chicago. Way back when, I was supposed to meet up with him and roll out to this loft party. However, my car got towed and I had to ride a BMX bike 3 miles to Garage by myself. I finally made it to the loft and after my “work out” I don’t think I was in the mood to party. Needless to say, this wouldn’t be the last time I’d try and meet up with Johnny Love. Through out the years he’s made some great contributions to Chicago. It was at his loft, The Jerk Store, that threw the parties that set the standard for every loft party in Chicago. He booked artists like Boys Noize, Uffie, Digitalism, Justice, and Para One before anyone even knew who or what those artist were. Johnny is always one step ahead of everyone else.
After things like multiple police shut downs of almost every underground venue in Chicago and a general change in what kind of parties people were throwing, Johnny Love moved away to LA and started producing music with Filip Turbotito. Guns ‘N Bombs was born and quickly rose to the forefront of the electro scene and quickly snatched up by Kitsuné, an amazing french record label and clothing brand. Guns are always providing high quality, peak hour tunes and crowd pleasing remixes. While new producers pop into the scene and adopt the sound to early Guns ‘N Bombs material, Guns still manages to remain on top and keeps re-inventing things.
“Riddle Of Steel” is there newest single and pushes the term “electro banger” into new territories. Sounding like Proxy caught in a mosh pit with Rusko but rounded out with the Guns ‘N Bombs LA know how; this track would have made me very happy had I heard it that fateful night after getting towed.
Also as a testament to Johnny’s taste-making ability him and his crew have started a new night in LA at the Echo along with a new blog, No Culture.

You are making out John to be much cooler than he actually was/is. I think everyone can agree on that.

Can someone set the record straight here? I’ve heard that Johnny is both loved and hated very deeply, depending on who you ask.
Whats the deal?

the deal is that. love em or hate him. you can’t deny his contribution to chicago. honestly. like i wrote he brought boys noize, justice, uffie, para one, and digitalism all to chicago first.
he is also my friend and time and time again helped me out.
he is opinionated and not afraid to speak his mind. this will make people dislike you.
also i wasn’t trying to make him look cool. it was more a general thanks for his great tunes and contributions.

I personally think Johnny is a great guy. I agree with Markus, he’s a straight shooter which is respectable. He also does help us out a lot, i mean if it weren’t for him, i would have hated playing my first LA shows. I think a lot of people base their opinion on him off of other people without meeting him. All in all though, he is a really good guy.
Also, there is no denying that riddle of steel is one of the coolest songs of the year

Moral of the Story. Dont judge people till you meet them for yourself.
PS. This track is banger as all hell. Love it.

Went to a guns’n'bombs gig of his in Ottawa a couple months back at this epic 30 ft high ceiling conference center.
I walked in and jokers of the scene ( JOTS via Myspace ) were spinning, but the volume was noticeably low. I asked the soundboard guys if they were going to crank it up (essentially implying that they should turn it up). These guys shrugged me off… this was a post-party for a fashion show so having a booming disco party wasn’t really the priority.
Later I saw someone else trying to talk to the sound guys and suddenly the volume got much louder, propper party style. Walked over to the guy, told him I tried to get them to turn it up earlier. Turned out to be Johnny… briefly spoke to him and he was definitely down to earth and cool with getting props from a random fan. I have respect for a DJ who takes responsibility for a gig that he isn’t organizing, and is only spinning at. Especially helping to fix tech issues during another DJs set.
