Predictions for 2009: Acts like Breakbot, Aeroplane, Black Holes, Kid Color and DiscoTech will flourish. Fidget will slowly slide off of everyone’s radar and in will come the warm sounds of the disco synth… And Animal Collective will be remixes 1MM times. In other words, I think that feel-good music will be in high demand. To start the year off on the right foot, we’ve got some new stuff from DiscoTech and Gigamesh (1/3 of DiscoTech), some damn fresh stuff might I add.
I’ve always been a fan of DiscoTech, but I never knew I was this big a fan of Gigamesh, even though he’s part of the group. Dude literally KILLED “Write To Make” by Estate and also put a nice little up-beat spin on Lookbook’s “Over and Over”… Speaking of Lookbook, I just did a post on them (sugar included). Also, I don’t know why the title is in French, these guys are from Minneapolis.

It seems like the rave-y house stuff like AC Slater is poised to have a big year. And I think this will be another banner year for dubstep also (good news for Murderbots). And I, of course, could not be more pleased that disco is coming back around, and not just as a pile of frequently-boring re-edits.
PS: Kid Color might/might not be big in 2k9, but he will always be big in my heart.
(And that Estate remix is great.)
