Vibrate

There is so much Electro music out there that is, for lack of a better word, robotic. Not robotic in a “Daft Punk – Mr. Roboto” type of way, but more in a heartless, emotionless way. I think people tend to forget that Electro/ Techno music is music too, and even though it is intended for dance, it is also intended to tap deeper emotions (Hello, have you heard Justice?). I guess the quality I’m trying to describe is Soul. As many techno bands/ remixes there are in this great, wide blogosphere, they won’t mean anything to the majority unless their music means something.

Well this soul I’m speaking of has come to me in the form of Ghostland Observatory, an incredibly difficult to classify duo based in Austin, Texas. They can be best described as “A robot making love to a tree!!”, as they define themselves on their Myspace profile. The band definitely has heavy Electro/ Techno influences, but they also have the amount of soul necessary for their music to hold meaning with a wide array of people. So check them out. It’s like Miami Vice, if it were based on a trashy spaceship.

Yes yes YES! Techno is great, though as with all other styles of music, there are way to many people out to make a quick buck. Why make good music when everyone will listen to your mediocre stuff? Ghostlan Observatory and Justice are great bands in a style that is tarred by the dregs of the other ‘artists’.

most music, except for jazz or music that has virtuoso performers like Jeff Beck, Joe Satriani, etc., for me, needs words and a singer. Otherwise it IS bloodless and pretty mechanical. Ghostland provides that lustiness in spades. I love them.
