Got on some new shit today from an artist I’ve never heard of, Mother Hubbard, and some Chi-town staples; Cool Kids. In case you didn’t know, Cool Kids have a new free mixtape out called “That’s Stupid The Mixtape” and it’s pretty much what you’d expect from them, aka solid Chicago hip-hop (sorry Nick).
I didn’t know what to expect from Mother Hubbard when I saw her in everyoneisfamous‘ pictures, whenever I see a girl DJ I’m always curious to see how talented they are. I know it’s a bad frame of mind, but I can’t shake it and probably never will. Upon further review, I’ve come to the conclusion that girls are good at spinning beats, I’ll always be skeptical, but names like Dani Deahl and Mother Hubbard are slowly turning things around for me.
Anyways, here are some good things coming out of Chicago, both completely different in style but both completely worthy.

Mother Hubbard does a monthly dance party with Bald Eagle called Life During Wartime. I’ve seen her at those, as well as random times at Smart Bar, etc. Good stuffs. I’m glad she’s on the list of DJs making you a little less sexist every day?

PS: Jesus christ do I love the new Cool Kids. I nearly had to pull over on the way to work this morning. The goof on Stardust/Chaka Khan had me laughing so hard I nearly couldn’t drive in city traffic.

You are supposed to think they are shitty DJs and that this has nothing to do with their gender? Just by sheer numbers there are way more shitty dude DJs. So I don’t really see what gender has to do with anything. A shitty DJ is a shitty DJ. A good one is good. Sometimes they have breasts, sometimes they do not.

PPS: As forms of sexism go, this one seems pretty low key and stuff. I suppose the question is really how you feel about women drivers.

I’m from Chicago and I love Dj Mother Hubbard. I’ve seen her at Darkroom and that other shitty place in Wicker Park. I’ve been trying to get here to come to Brooklyn since I’ve moved here… she’s teamed up w/ another chick called Rocktapussy which is totally dope too.
