Bikini (Johnny Penn and Aaron Aujla) met at the wee age of 16 at Norfolk Prep School. After graduation, both said farewell; Penn moving to Montreal to join Tokyo Police Club, Wolf Parade, and Chromeo in the halls of McGill University and Aujla entering the art circles of Queen West alongside Feist, MSTRKRFT and Broken Social Scene.
Long story short, they reunited in ‘07 in a Montreal cafe to reminisce about old times. Two weeks later a parcel arrived from Aujla containing the wav files for his cover of Feist’s 1234. The next thing they knew it was blowing up in Canada, the interwebs and now the bizzies!
These guys remind me of Plastic Operator a little bit, must be the Montreal style or something. Either way, compare, contrast, enjoy…
