Hungry For Some Mash-Ups

June 30, 2008 · 12 Comments

Lately I’ve heard more about Girl Talk and his shitty mash-up’s than ever before, and I have to tell you… It’s annoying. There are, however, good mash-up’s in the world of music and AutoRock is one of the dudes responsible for them. I was starting to lose hope in the whole “good mash-up” thing, because people are all raving like crazy about bad ones (GT).

So, without further ado, check out the quality original remix “This Is Golden” with a side of DC mashed potatoes!

AMEN! oh how i wish that every fan of girl talk would go grab the demo of ableton so that they could see exactly how much of a f’n hack that guy is.

Girl Talk uses some other software rather than Ableton, I can’t think of the name right now… Either way, I see your point.

Thanks for the support dude — I’ve been reading Biscuits for a minute.

But just for splitting hairs sake — that J5 track is a straight up remix. No mashing in that one (except the acapella, obviously).

i agree with you that autorock is good. thanks for introducing me to him.

i must say, however, i don’t understand why you’re hating on girl talk. it’s fun to party to when you crank it up real loud. what’s wrong with that?

Because there is so much hype about him for nothing, DJ’s do mash-up’s all night, every night all over and half the time they are better. How hard is it to throw some rap vocals over an 80’s song? Not hard.

You say he’s a good dj and fun to listen to, thats fine. But he doesn’t deserve half the praise he gets. Just my opinion.

Girl Talk is a glorified mash-up DJ who got on the wave early and got some exposure by some big names. Then all of a sudden hipster kids are going nuts for him.

    Ghey.

Ok I gotta chime in a little, I actually feel on both sides. I once read an interview of Girltalk where he states he is not a DJ, he called it something else, I can’t remember. And he is right he is not a DJ. Everything is does is premade, all he does is trigger it with his laptop, the software program beatmatches everything for him. Do I think of him as a DJ no, do I think its hard what he does, no. Do I give him credit for being creative on some of his stuff, yes. General public does not know the difference between a DJ who babysits the record, CD, etc. and throws in the instrumental in TIME and mashes something live and all the movements and this he needs to do to make that mash up period, all the know is what the end result is and that is what Girltalk has eliminated. Now it’s a matter of do you respect the work for its creativeness or do you respect the guy that works on his SKILL Level and creativeness to pull of the same thing.
