February 08, 2009 Update:
I have the new album and it is incredible… Easily on par for the “Best of 2009″…
The Prodigy are ALMOST DONE with their next studio album, and thats kind of a big deal for a lot of people, especially me. As a matter of fact, the first dance album I ever bought as a youngster was Fat of The Land. After that purchase I was obsessed, and I now own every full/ single album that Prodigy has ever released, minus the obscure bootlegs that are in Japanese or something.
Their last album, Their Law, sort of touched base on all their previous albums, so if you don’t want to scour the internet for weird Prodigy singles, just pick that up. Their last REAL album was Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned, which got some heavy, heavy air-time by me. A lot of people were looking for an album based around the Baby’s Got A Temper single, but it wasn’t, it was based around a new kind of awesomeness that no one ever heard before. I was a little worried about their survival after the AONO release because it didn’t take with people as well as I thought it would. However, all faith was restored when they released Their Law and later headlined Creamfields. I’m glad they were making noise in the rest of the world because the US didn’t care for them after Fat of The Land had dissolved.
This new album makes me think about why I love their music so much, you can literally hear them re-invent themselves and dance music with everything they release; I’m hoping to see the same thing with Justice. If you’re sick of Justice and the whole Ed Banger Records crew, at least be honest and admit they saved dance music. Whether you agree with that statement or not, lets all agree on the fact that we can’t wait for this new Prodigy to drop in the Fall, deal? Deal.
I could probably go on for about 10 pages about how amazing they were live or about my plans of getting AONO tattooed in a script type-face somewhere on my body, but instead I’m going to hit you with some of my favorite tracks.
The Prodigy – Baby’s Got A Temper
The Prodigy – Back 2 School
The Prodigy – Breathe
The Prodigy – Climbatize *All Time Favorite*
The Prodigy – Fire (Sunrise Version)
The Prodigy – More Girls
The Prodigy – Spitfire (Future Funk Squads Dogfight Remix)
The Prodigy – Their Law (Live)
The Prodigy – Voodoo People (Pendulum Remix)

hey hey,
Appreciate your love for the prodge, however there is no source for a release this fall, 5 tracks are finished atm (prolly!) but still it’s all unsure, might be next year, but not this fall.

Man, you just stomped all over my dreams…
First you tell me theres no Prodigy cd, then you bash on Justice and Boys Noize? Maaaaaaaan thats harsh! Haha.
I can’t remember where I read it, I wish I would have linked it, but I know I read it correctly.
Sorry if this info is incorrect.

not wanting to be a hater, but the whole justice thing is well over rated. if there ever was a case of the ‘emperor’s new clothes’, then they are it.
not content with being a monotonous one trick pony musically, they then try to claim that they are the spearhead of a ‘movement’.
try to to pin a fan of theirs down on this topic, and you get drowned in froth about ‘fashion, art, etc…’, but really they’re just a middle of the road indiekid techno outfit with ideas above their station.
it should have been obvious what they were like when they insisted on being known by a specially created symbol, like a certain other nameless musician, who is also known for being stuck up and pretentious….
sweetBeats // July 5, 2008 at 2:14 pm |
Well played, sir. Although based on interviews and seeing them live, I wouldn’t call them stuck up and pretentious. They seem very appreciative of their success, and I think its unfair to pin them like that.
They never talk like “oh we’re the best and we’re at the head of a movement”, they related the cross symbol as being something people could associate themselves to, something bigger than themselves.
I can see where you’re coming from when you say they are a “one trick pony”, but I’m a big fan of their one trick, so I can’t complain :)
Are you referring to Busy P as being stuck up?
Bob LaBob // July 7, 2008 at 5:40 pm |
Great blog man. As far as Justice and Ed Banger go, their music is tearing up Europe as well as the States. I heard Genesis on a rock station yesterday! They’re definitly not stuck up, they’re just French; so it sounds like theyre stuck up. That picture is epic, as well. lol!

I’ve got to say, im not loving Justice too much right now. People are FAR too excited about them because they sound new and interesting, but there’s been stuff like them around for years now. It’s a shame that people are bottle-necked into thinking that they’re the only thing around to satisfy their electro-dance cravings. not that they’re not good – I’ll give them that, but the way they’ve taken over that aspect makes me a little distraught. here’s to hoping that ‘one trick pony’ trate doesn’t live out. :)

One word: Branding.
dasMetzger // July 11, 2008 at 8:10 pm |
definitely walking into this convo late, but my 2cents:
were all these cats bitching about justice being a ‘one trick pony’ 12 months ago? samwidge is right that sometimes people might say some ignorant ish when dishing praises, we all know what kind of amazing talent is out there… but to bash the success of a band just because joe and jane doe on the dance floor in tight jeans enjoys them, doesn’t all of a sudden make that band tainted. those that read these blogs are gonna be a little too saturated in the genre for their own good. point being, let those that enjoy the beats enjoy them, and the rest of us take a step back and quit being so god damn critical of music and other people’s tastes in and out of the genre.
for the record, i fucking love Justice.
chong // September 5, 2008 at 10:58 am |
i fuckin love Justice also. The electronic music scene has always been filled with jaded bastards. I think they helped revive the electronic music scene, at least here in the states.
>MotionFluid // September 17, 2008 at 3:12 pm |
I also like Justice, to be honest i’m not sure why people are even comparing Justice to The Prodigy anyway, I don’t believe Justice are in the same league yet because they are too young a band, when i compare my favourite bands I think of The Chemical Brothers and the genius that was Orbital, if Justice can stand the test of time and adapt their music through time the way these great bands have then they will be worthy of thought. Ps with regards to reviving the electronic scene, in the UK it never went away, maybe all the Jaded Bastards stayed in the US??
flv // September 18, 2008 at 7:59 am |
justice has the same feel as daft punk. they are not spearheads of any movement, they are just another french electronic act. prodigy is the best thing ever happened to electronic music. justice fails.
Lewis // September 28, 2008 at 4:05 am |
Sorry to cut in on this so late but
1) In what way is Justice ANYTHING like The Prodigy. The Prodigy can be classified as a rock band that plays electronic music (thats from wikipedia :)). Justice can be classified as a House band.
2) Justice aren’t a one trick pony. They are just a great band who are trying to make a living by making great music.

Comparing The Prodigy and Justice is like comparing chalk and cheese. They’re just too opposite for each other but the again, opposites attract. I personally think both dance acts are just subliminal in what they do and deliver different elements to the genre/sub-genre’s of dance music. Everyone has their own opinions and dislikes so what works for one/someone maybe not be represented by another party. I am just glad that dance music has stand the test of time and forever keeps on evolving and bringing something new and fresh and also bring back, breathing new life to some old classics that have been lost to way side.
Dance music has been about self expression and having fun and not getting too full of one’s self which seems to be happening lately in the dance/club scene. I can hear the people saying “Bring back the atmosphere of the scene in the 90’s” and I raise my hand and vouch for that.
I can’t wait till The Prodigy do release their new album (whenever it’s going to released I have no idea, but I wait patiently) as they have been an inspiration for for the dance genre and always seem to reinvent themselves each and every record just as acts like, The Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, Orbital, Felix Da Housecat, Basement Jaxx, Paul Van Dyke, Groove Armada and many other acts.
Keep the beats and the feet flowing on the dance floor and keep the smiling faces beaming on the dance floor. Play hard, but fair.
P.S Anyone a big fan of The Presets? I can’t seem to get enough of them and their latest album ‘Acopalypso’ is just divine.

just got an email from them:
New Album To Be Released On March 2nd
Hi everyone
It’s the news we have all been waiting for. We can now tell you the new album is called “Invaders Must Die” and will be released on The Prodigy’s imprint, Take Me To The Hospital, through Cooking Vinyl, on March 2nd. Liam Howlett, Keith Flint and Maxim all feature on the album, which is the first time since the release of Fat Of The Land in 1997. The result is back to their bone shaking best, a collision of old skool rave noise with the stratospheric limits of new technology.

I read most of this..I skimmed the bits that I would’ve bothered blabbing on about if I could be arsed climbing on my high horse…I’m prone to ramble but I’ll keep it simple..
Die hard Prodigy fan from early on that’s heard latest single and wept.
Not hugely impressed with Justice and regarded them as Daft Punk 2.0 until heard ‘Planisphere’ and wept for a completely different reason.
/end 2 cents
