This holiday weekend is bringing more than just fireworks to the windy city, Richie Hawtin and some very special guests are going to be at Smartbar to deliver some proper Techno. Hawtin, with Barem and Ambivalent, will be bussing in from St. Louis as part of the Minus Bus Tour. If you’re not too hung over from the 4th and you’re into quality Minimal/ Techno then I suggest that you enter our little contest here. Per usual, simply email us to enter the giveaway and we’ll hit you back if you win (email us before Sunday.) We had 2 pairs of tickets to give away but we actually already threw a pair at one of our Twitter followers, which is yet another fine reason to follow us!

One of the top songs of the year has to be Crystal Fighters‘ “Xtatic Truth”. Full of simple side-chained synths, haunting vocals and backed by strong percussion, it’s the type of song that puts a little extra bounce to my step when strolling through Montreal. It was released by Kitsuné and is available for purchase. Since it’s one of my favorite songs at the moment I also want to give you my favorite remixes. One from Renaissance Man and the other from L-VIS 1990, both are equal in my opinion and I hate having to pick one when DJing. Maybe you can decide.
Nightshifters are back with a brand new release and this one is extra rad because it’s Chicago’s own, Rampage. This EP entitled War is full of genre bending tracks. One minute it’s Dubstep and the next it’s full on Fidget meets rave, but it’s 100% Southside Chicago the whole time. Rampage has been steadily releasing hit after hit, which is no surprise because he rolls with the Ghetto Division crew (Charlie Glitch, Rob Threezy, and MoonMan to name a few). War also has insane remixes from Blatta & Inesha and Heavyfeet. My pick has to be the horn laced heater “Southside Anthem”. We don’t have that one for you but we do want you too check out “Loving You Is Easy”.
This might be my favorite “Cold Dust Girl” remix that I’ve heard so far. The spacey rendition came in from a Chicago native by the name of Gingerking. The reason I, dare I say, “love” this remix is because it’s so different from all of the others. It’s got a really solid, atmospheric foundation and all the elements needed to project “that bounce”. Hey Champ would be proud.
My favorite two dudes from Los Angeles, Acid Girls are back with some new remixes. First off is there take on 30H!3’s “Don’t Trust Me”. They definitely take the song and make it listenable as well as playable. The other new track is a remix of Delorean. For some reason it wasn’t used on the release of the record which is a crying shame because it’s absolutely gorgeous. Enjoy the new tracks and pick up the Acid Girls/Classixx split on Kitsuné.
Hate to be a self promo idiot but my production/dj duo, LOL Boys just finished a mix for Discobelle. It’s a really accessible mix that I suggest using for drinking at home, throwing on your iPod for working out or just whatever. It definitely has that house party vibe and is fast paced enough for kids enough with ADD with out being all girl talk-esque. I’ve also upped our remix of Fagget Fairys‘ “Roll The Dice”, a track we used to start our the mix off.
