To get stuck in my head.

I remember a couple of years ago when Bad Boy Bill’s “Behind The Decks” CD came out and I listened to it non-stop for the entire summer. well, Kid Color Presents: Carded & DisCarded is going to be the mix of Summer 2008. You know when you listen to a mix or an album or an artist in general and you know that they have that “it” factor? Well, Kid has it.
I’m actually listening to the mix as I write this and I can’t think of enough good things to say about it. I’ve had the privilege of spinning with Kyle (Kid Color) and it’s…. OOOH! Toes done up with’r finger nails matchin’!! Sorry, Just hit track 15. As I was saying, Kyle’s one of the nicest dudes I know and it’s only right that… OOOH! HEY HEY HEYYY WE WANT SOME PU-PUSSAAAAY!! Sorry, just hit track 16…
You know what, I can’t do this right now…
(20 minutes later)
Wow. Dude seriously just killed it.

Got a bunch of good stuff in the mail the past couple of days, so I’m busting out another redthreat. This post is full of weird stuff. Well, not weird, but stuff I’m not usually into, if you’re expecting some typical biscuits then you should just leave now.
This post is a testament to the fact that I’m a fan of good music and good production, whatever genre it may fall under.

Ian Anderson (Afternoon Records + Vitriol Promotions) is always broadening my musical horizons with stuff I would never think to listen to on my own. For example, Now, Now Every Children, Poison Control Center, The Wars of 1812, and One For The Team are a few of the great bands he’s introduced me to.
Haley Bonar is another name you could add to that list. “Big Star” is her first single off of her new album, “Big Star”, which is set to be released June 10th on Afternoon Records. Through-out the track, her voice and supporting instruments create an atmosphere that just flows, I think the production is a strong-point on this one.
Personally, Haley isn’t something I would listen to on the regular, but as you know, sometimes one needs a break from the monotony. “Big Star” is a nice little break from my electro life.

Afghan Raiders is a name I had never heard before today, but I feel like I’ll be hearing it more in the future. “Future Thinkers” is a single off of the Raiders first vinyl/ digital release on their indie label; Badical Beats. What a dope name for a label.
“Future Thinkers” has a techy, video game feel to it, but at the same time it still has the balls of a full-out dance song to back it up. The vocals are a nice touch too. Man, talk about a well rounded track!

If you’ve ever tuned into Biscuits before then Mr. Gaspar’s name should ring a bell. He’s done some pretty sweet mash-ups and remixes that I’ve posted in the past and this is another one. It takes a brave man to pick apart “Love Fool” and Gaspar successfully did it; I never thought I’d see the day that The Cardigans were remixed.
I think Andy Bernard put it best when he said,”Whatever happened to those guys?”

I’m going to be honest with you here… I know nothing about Jealous Girlfriends, Of Montreal or MGMT. Their names look familiar because they constantly saturate The Hype Machine’s popular list, but beyond that they are foreign to me.
I am, however, quite familiar with Amplive. Remember all the great work he did on the Radiohead remix album? I do. Remember all the bullshit he had to cut through to release it? I do too. Here are some more stellar remixes by the phenom that is known as Amplive, hopefully he didn’t have any legal troubles releasing them.

Of Montreal vs. MGMT - Future Faberge (Amplive Remix)
Enjoy.

Old Money are some new school hip-hop kids who kind of remind me of The Cool Kids. They both sport the hipster-esque styles and it feels like they are both on the come up. As you know The Cool Kids have been repped everywhere from here to Japan, and well, so has Old Money.
The most buzz coming from this “Steve Harvey” track they have. It’s solid enough on its own but it also remixes reeeeeeally well, as you can hear below. Whether their tracks go original style or remixed, you will without a doubt find yourself bobbin’ to old moneyz bizzeats. My personal favorite is the Morsy Remix, You’ll understand why once you give it a listen; it’s just got that “bump” to it.

“Walter Meego is not a dude, but a duo. Justin Sconza and Colin Yarck, the heart and soul (respectively) of Walter Meego, are two rare suburban white boys who intuitively understand the subliminal power of synthy, salacious bass.” - Press Release Email
I couldn’t have said it better myself. When I first heard “Girls” last year I was mildly impressed with what Walter Meego seemed to be all about, so when I received a review copy of their album, “Voyager“, I was a little reluctant to give it a chance. After listening to it, I realized that I couldn’t have been more wrong about what the album was all about.
Their album reminds me a lot of Cut Copy’s in that it’s very atmospheric and synthy. “Voyager” delivers that modern disco-pop that I’ve been into for a while now and with the addition of really strong production, its win/win. My personal favorite on the album is by far “Keyhole”, the build/ break down’s are just perfect. Yep… Perfect. If you can think of putting Midnight Juggernaut, Cut Copy and M83 together into one alter-ego; Walter Meego (nice rhyme) would be it.
If I were you I would do all I could to get this album when its released on May 27th, and if you have the opportunity to see them live; do it. If you plan on attending the Chicago show at The Abbey, I’ll see you there.

When I said that Tenzin had the best remix of “American Boy”… LAZRtag hit me up with their rendition of the tune today and hot. motha. fudgin. DAMN! I guarantee that this remix will be far superior than any other “American Boy” remix you’ve heard so far.

Thats what “El Topo” means, which is what Mike Perry goes by when he’s on stage. To tell you the truth thats all I really know about the Chicago native, that and he makes some pretty fly mash-ups. I got a heap of good stuff in my indox today, but since it’s all available on his myspace, I’m just going to post my favorite.
Check out this up-beat mash-up of Spank Rock’s “Bump” over The Blow’s “Parentheses” as well as my favorite track from his mixtape:
